OVERVIEW
I have enjoyed
varied legal experience since beginning my career as an attorney
in 1988. My experience in the area of personal injury law having
represented both plaintiffs and defendants in settlement negotiations,
contested arbitration hearings and trials. I have tried more than
thirty cases to verdict in front of both jury and bench trials.
Not only have I successfully represented personal injury claimants
and medical malpractice victims, I have also handled numerous victims
of motor vehicle accidents, victims of crime and people who have
suffered violations of their civil rights.
As well, I have extensive experience in criminal defense law, taking
criminal matters to verdict before a jury, post-conviction habeas
corpus cases in both state and federal court, and have presented
appeals to the Nevada Supreme Court, Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals
and United States Supreme Court. I have represented more than seventy-five
criminal post-trial petitioners, ranging from state post-conviction
to federal habeas corpus practice. My trial and hearing experience
consists of simple misdemeanor and juvenile actions to first degree
murder trials and death row practice. I have been selected by both
federal and state judges for appointment to represent indigent criminal
defendants, including many high profile and complex matters.
I am also well-versed in the area of bankruptcy law having represented
debtors and creditors in Chapter 7 liquidations, Chapter 11 corporate
reorganizations and Chapter 13 consumer plans. I have represented
creditor's committees in large Chapter 11 cases, including the Ormsby
House bankruptcy, and successfully helped reorganize corporate debtors.
I also practice in the areas of corporate and contract law, helping
local businesses in their formation and operation as well as the
drafting of complex contracts. I also am trained in the field of
entertainment law where I have represented recording artists, performers,
authors and songwriters.
I started my second career by becoming a lawyer as a means to assist
people in need and pain, and as a result of my work in behalf of
people who require such assistance I was named Pro Bono Attorney
of Year in 1997 by the Washoe County Bar Association. I have also
served as a volunteer youth soccer coach, president of Temple Sinai-Reform
and first vice president of the Nevada State Youth Soccer Association.
I have presented education seminars for lawyers on the subject of
Premises Liability, Civil Litigation, Basic Bankruptcy and Criminal
Defense Law. I previously taught in the Truckee Meadows Community
College paralegal program.
My legal assistants Debbie Roberts and Larri Ann Picker are certificated
paralegals. They have extensive experience in handling litigation preparation, bankruptcy
document drafting, and are extremely efficient in addressing client
concerns.
